Nanolog Audio Classic Overdrive
Inspired by classic Tube Screamer circuitry, the Classic Overdrive is a versatile foundation for any rig. The pedal features four distinct clipping options that allow the user explore multiple sounds by switching through silicon, germanium, and two different carbon options (N1 & N2). Each of these four clipping options create distinct tones and sound wave characteristics. The Classic Overdrive allows the user to explore the elements at simple twist of knob, and houses two of the industry’s most scientifically advanced clipping devices.Going beyond the conventional single tone knob of a Tube Screamer, the Classic Overdrive has active Treble & Bass Cut controls to provide more tonal control and shaping potential. These EQ filters coupled with the four clipping options amount to a broad array of possibilities and applications.
Using the Classic Overdrive at the front end of a signal chain in either carbon setting allows the true potential of the pedal to shine: the more natural, smooth, and uncompressed sound waves produced by the carbon devices gives significantly more headroom to play with.
The Classic Overdrive ultimately is a diverse tone shaping tool. It showcases new technology while allowing users to contrast this carbon technology with traditional silicon and germanium diodes. The N1 & N2 carbon settings create more full and dynamic tones with warm and rich textures.
The less compressed and saturated properties created through the “quantum tunneling” process gives the artist a broader base and solid tonal foundation. While overdrives are common and a plenty, they serve a critical element in any distorted signal chain. The Classic Overdrive can also be used as a boost pedal using volume, gain, and EQ settings to push your tone to the next level. The natural tonal qualities and harmonics of carbon produced distortion can carry a “transparent” sound and feel, which makes it ideal for rich and full lead tones.
CLASSIC OVERDRIVE: SPECS
Controls the output volume of the pedal, and can be adjusted as needed. With gain at low settings, the volume can be used to boost the signal. As the gain increases, the overall apparent volume output will increase.
Controls the amount of overdrive applied to the signal. This knob has a lot of range, and at low settings will add almost no distortion to the signal - perhaps a touch of compression. At higher settings, a heavily overdriven sound will result, and the amount of distortion generated will also depend on the device selected for waveform shaping and on the treble cut and bass cut settings.
Turning this up (clockwise) will cut the high frequencies passing through the circuit. When no treble cut is applied, the full range of high frequencies generated by the source and the overdrive stage will pass through the circuit. Since the overdrive circuit adds harmonic content to the audio signal, as the gain is turned up, it may be desirable to cut more treble. The treble cut is interactive with the bass cut and gain controls.
Turning this up (clockwise) will cut the low frequencies passing through the circuit. When no bass cut is applied (totally counter-clockwise), there will be a lot of bass response. This can work well for low gain settings, or where a thicker, fatter overdriven tone is desired. However, as the gain is turned up, it may be desirable to turn up the bass cut to reduce the prevalence of “muddiness” in the sound. The bass cut control is interactive with the treble cut and gain knobs.
Selects the device that is used to generate overdrive. The Ge (germanium), Si (silicon), N1 (carbon), and N2 (carbon) options provide a lot of flexibility in both the tone and feel of the pedal. The Ge setting will provide for a warm, compressed tone. Si will provide a harsher sound, with a more sudden onset of clipping - this setting is useful for cutting through the mix and will provide the most treble response and saturation. The N1 setting is a 4 nm Nanolog Device, which provides for a medium amount of gain and compression, but a distinct feel relative to Ge or Si. The N2 is a 6 nm Nanolog Device, providing for more saturation and an unprecedented amount of dynamic overdriven tone.
